The story so far ...
David’s career is represented by a profound and highly specialised approach combining integrative medicine, systems biology and manual therapy in order to restore the functional balance of the body through physical, nutritional, emotional, mental and spiritual approaches.
A 33 year career utilising physiotherapeutic and osteopathic skills with early career emphasis on elite sporting individuals and teams coincided with the development of integrative, alternative and complementary medicine skills.
When still an undergraduate, David recognised early that a reductionist curriculum didn’t allow for a theoretical and practical grasp of a connected bodily system.
David has focused on the development of a practice based on sensitivity and precision: a highly sensitive touch that allows detection of minute changes in tissue texture, temperature, movement and motility. This level of sensitivity requires decades of practice and an intimate understanding of anatomy and metabolism. It requires a three-dimensional understanding of tissue and organs which speaks to relationships and systems. It is a truly holistic integration of how each organ, tissue, vessel, fluid, and metabolic processes feel within the body under normal and pathological conditions. This allows for targeted and effective treatments.
A case in point would be the brain, a conductor of bodily system integration. The development of skills to sense subtle movements and rhythms within the brain and cranial structures allows detection of abnormalities in cerebrospinal fluid flow, cranial bone mobility, and delicate movements of the brain tissue itself. This heightened sensitivity is crucial for diagnosing and addressing functions that are missed by conventional approaches. Further, using techniques to address the glymphatic system and remove brain waste enhance detoxification, reduce neuroinflammation and improve (whole body) function.
Practical experience has shown nothing should be forced in the body and treatment is designed to encourage the body’s own natural healing processes, respecting the body’s natural wisdom by implementing the minimum necessary intervention.
There is a necessity to be adaptable, constantly reassessing the patient’s condition and modifying the treatment as needed, minute by minute. This dynamic approach ensures that the treatment is always in alignment with the patient’s current state of health.
The work requires a never ending commitment to learning and dedication to mastery in order to provide high levels of care. Whilst being grounded in clinical experience and scientific research, the work is also paradigm-shifting for standards in holistic medical treatment.
The nutritional and environmental medicine knowledge that comes with a Fellowship has allowed for a deeper and more comprehensive understanding and treatment of metabolic, energetic, hormonal and biochemical dysfunction inherent with the feel, behaviour and connected function of the cells, tissues and systems.
On a personal level, striving to be authentic is a guiding factor for direction in life. This means having a distinctive voice and living through doing rather than just thinking. It means finding your truth and the truth of all things. It means accepting change and being a capacitor for change. It means indulging your curiosity and using your imagination. It means many things! It means seeking, always seeking …
